About our Organisation

Lalor Neighbourhood House Inc. (LNH) is a community based not-for-profit Learn Local Adult Education Centre and Neighbourhood House which has been offering many different activities and classes for members of the community for 31 years.

This welcoming, friendly and professional Centre provides activities that focus on adult education, in particular English, Literacy and introductory level information technology courses. The Centre is very supportive of learners of all ages from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and also provides Occasional Childcare and After School Tutoring programs.

We are a Child Safe organisation. All volunteers must adhere to LNH’s Child Safe Policy and uphold the Centre’s Statement of Commitment to child safety at all times. (statement available at www.lalornh.org.au also placed in several visible locations throughout the French Street site).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertake short induction process
  • Attend committee meetings held once a month unless absence is unavoidable. (Participation via Zoom is available for members if required)
  • Consider, debate and vote on issues before the Committee on the basis of the best interests of the organisation
  • Read Committee papers circulated in advance of the Committee meeting and consider any issues before the meeting
  • Engage in the review and approval of the organisation’s Strategic Plan.
  • By mutual agreement, undertake Committee Administrative duties as required.
  • Promote the Centre within the community when opportunities arise.
  • Avoid making any improper use of position within the organisation so as to gain any material advantage for themselves, or for any other person or to the detriment of the organisation
  • May required to help taking minutes for the CoG meetings
  • May be asked to participate in sub- committees.

Key Selection criteria

It would be highly regarded if the applicant has some of the following expertise:

  • Accounting and budget management
  • Secretary role experience
  • Board Governance
  • Marketing and Social Media
  • Community engagement
  • Policy work expertise

Committee members must achieve a successful outcome of the following checks:

  • National Criminal Police Check
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)

These will be undertaken on your behalf by the Centre.
