Robe River Kuruma Aboriginal Corporation (RRKAC) are seeking a highly experienced Manager, Country and Cultural Heritage to join their Management Team. Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer, the Manager, Country and Cultural Heritage will be responsible for oversight of RRKAC’s heritage and environmental activities, programs, and projects, and managing heritage staff.

RKKAC is an Aboriginal organisation, with over 400 members aged 18+. Based in Karratha, Western Australia, the organisation’s vision is to work together as a community to establish a solid foundation towards independence, community wellbeing, cultural identity, and healthy Country now and for future generations.

Robe River Kuruma Aboriginal Corporation (RRKAC) is the registered native title body corporate for Robe River Kuruma (RRK) native title determined areas.

About the role:

The Manager, Country and Cultural Heritage implements RRKAC’s Healthy Country Framework and develops and implements RRKAC on-Country programs and activities consistent with the Strategic and Operational Plans including leading cultural heritage surveys, land management and ranger activities and the delivery of cultural awareness training. The Manager, Country and Cultural Heritage is responsible for overseeing the implementation and compliance of RRK’s five Indigenous Land Use Agreements, along with participation in the two negotiations currently in-train.

The Manager, Country and Cultural Heritage will coach and mentor all direct reports, ensuring the team understand their role in delivering activities and outcomes aligned to the RRK Strategic Plan, encouraging growth and high performance, and leading by example.

This role will suit a committed, high-performing individual with extensive experience in cultural heritage and / or land management, with a demonstrated ability to deliver high impact programs and activities that that ensure Aboriginal people are at the centre of caring for and managing their Country.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Extensive experience in senior management roles with proven leadership experience
  • Ability to multitask, coordinate and manage a range of programs and projects
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop strategies and initiatives to ensure RRK people can identify and protect areas of cultural significance.
  • Significant experience and demonstrated achievements in the management of cultural heritage and land management activities.
  • Experience in strategic land and resource planning, including a demonstrated ability to conduct cultural heritage and land management audits and develop plans that secure social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits.
  • Working knowledge of Aboriginal community aspirations and cultural resource management practices.
  • Experience in mentoring, managing and developing teams.
  • A thorough understanding of relevant legislation
  • Strong internal stakeholder engagement and ability to influence, be visible and engage with the community
  • Genuine appreciation and respect for Aboriginal people and their culture, including a commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and self-management.
  • Willingness to work in a demanding environment that may require work outside of normal hours.
