Sparechair cafe is a social enterprise cafe in Kew whose focus is to provide quality food options and exceptional customer service while delivering a variety of hospitality training programs to those individuals who have experienced barriers to education and to employment.

KNLC and Sparechair

Sparechair cafe is a social enterprise program at Kew Neighbourhood Learning Centre (KNLC). KNLC is a not for profit Organisation providing educational, social and support programs, activities and opportunities for our Community.

KNLC's programs include a number of social enterprises including Sparechair cafe.

Currently Sparechair is undergoing a process of change and innovation, addressing it's educational delivery, sustainability practices and the introduction of an seasonal and changing menu.

This is an opportunity to join a vibrant and dynamic team committed to making a difference for people and planet. We are looking for either 1 person as a cook/chef to work alongside our cafe supervisor and be instrumental in growing the success of the enterprise. You will have a key role in menu sourcing and planning, preparing, cooking and plating good quality food. You will also be a key figure in the education and mentoring of students who come through our programs.

Alternatively, this could be 2 positions. 1 being cook/chef and the second position as overseeing the hospitality training program. This position must also be able to function both front and back of house. Coffee and cooking skills are essential.

Position Objective

The primary focus of both roles is to build upon the current business operations, including menu planning and preparation and integrate the learning of students into the cafe space. The role(s) will assist the cafe supervisor to grow and develop the cafe's offerings, improving kitchen processes and outputs. You will also be involved in a strategy to achieve sustainable food practices.

These role(s) will form part of the new cafe team. Candidates must be passionate about food and sharing their passion with all. You will be innovative and solution focused and provide creative ideas to raise the profile of the cafe and the training programs.

The positions are offered as an innovate way to explore the growth of the cafe as a key hub of KNLC.
