Senior Solicitor - Kununurra

Kimberley Community Legal Services

Kimberley Community Legal Services is one of Australia's leading remote civil law practices, dedicated to ensuring justice for all Kimberley people and communities. KCLS is a reflective, multidisciplinary, client-centric practice, working closely with predominantly Aboriginal client communities. We serve our clients from offices in Kununurra and Broome, with regular outreach to all major towns across the region, and periodic visits to many other communities on country.

We are seeking an experienced full-time Solicitor to join our Kununurra team. As a solicitor you will assist clients with a wide range of civil and family law matters, including tenancy, child protection, family violence and elder abuse, credit and debt, consumer, employment, public benefits, compensation and redress claims, and others. You will work closely with our social work team, which provides intensive support to clients with complex tenancy and family support needs. You will have responsibility for one of our outreach regions across the East Kimberley, and will also work with the team on community education and systemic reform projects.

Kununurra is a diverse, welcoming town of 5,000 people in one of Australia’s most iconic natural landscapes. With a vibrant, outdoors-oriented lifestyle and a strong sense of community, life in the East Kimberley is full of opportunities for natural and cultural connection.

The successful applicant will have at least 3 and preferably 4+ years experience in civil and/or family legal practice, and must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in remote settings and with Aboriginal communities is a strong plus. The applicant will be committed to meeting the needs of the most disadvantaged in the community, will have the ability to engage clients with empathy, and will be comfortable acting in remote environments.

This is a full-time permanent appointment.

Salary: Salary commensurate with comparable public and community sector roles, depending on experience. Attractive salary sacrifice arrangements available. Generous leave provisions, including five weeks annual leave.

Feel free to contact Chuck Berger, KCLS Manager, on 0417 447 599 with any questions about KCLS, the role or the selection process.
