Karralika Programs Inc. is a not-for-profit specialist alcohol and other drug organisation that provides programs for people in the Canberra and the surrounding areas since 1978.

We support adults, young people and families to address and recover from alcohol and drug problems through a range of residential and community programs.

The role:

This counselling position works within a multidisciplinary team and involves direct contact with people and their loved ones experiencing, or recovering from, problematic alcohol and other drug use. The position will provide individual, group or family brief interventions, counselling and educational interventions, resulting in high quality and clinically effective treatments. All staff work within a harm minimisation framework to support people with alcohol and drug issues. This counsellor supports the intake and assessment function and works with people with complicating psychosocial issues with an emphasis on supporting people entering or exiting residential treatment.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Qualifications and registration in a directly relevant field - psychologist, social worker, counsellor
  • Full and unconditional professional registration with AHPRA, Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Counselling Association or the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and engage with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions across the allied health sector
  • Demonstrated ability to provide evidence-based, high-quality brief intervention and counselling services to individuals and families and the ability to facilitate groups
  • Demonstrated reliability and ability to lead by example
  • Proven ability to solve problems and conflict situations within the workplace and open to giving and receiving feedback
  • Proven time management skills and ability to coordinate tasks and manage competing priorities
  • Proven skills in record keeping and report writing, and sound computer literacy
  • Have a flexible work attitude and adhere to professional and agency ethics, boundaries and practices
  • Current Working With Vulnerable People’s Clearance and drivers licence

Desirable:

  • Experience in working with families in an AOD context
