Jesuit Social Services is establishing a new School – the Ignatius Learning Centre.
Enrolling students for the first time in 2021, the Ignatius Learning Centre offers an education that fosters responsibility and transformation, and that engages young people who have had a severely disrupted education and are at significant risk of incarceration and/or further involvement with the youth justice system.
As a specialist Catholic Secondary School guided by a Catholic social ethos and Ignatian heritage, we provide a holistic education, so that students can experience success in a safe and supportive environment. The Ignatius Learning Centre enables students to restore hope, experience a sense of belonging, flourish and reach their potential.
The Ignatius Learning Centre opened in Term 1 of 2021, initially enrolling approximately 20 young men, aged 15 – 17, offering the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) as the curriculum.
The Student Engagement and Transitions officer role is a part of the Engagement Team at the Ignatius Learning Centre, and reports to the Head of Engagement.
The role is to strengthen the capacity for the school to engage its students, particularly those with long histories of disengagement, school exclusion and involvement in the Criminal Justice System, due to complex and challenging behaviours.
The role will be a balance of assertive outreach, 1:1 intensives with students and presence in classes. The role will involve a small case load of students requiring assertive outreach to get them into school and 1:1 support when at school.
The role will also involve a small transition case load (4-6) for graduating students transitioning into further education (TAFE, University) or vocational/ transitional pathways post completing their VCAL certificate at the ILC.
