About the program

Support After Suicide, a suicide postvention program, is an initiative of Jesuit Social Services. Operating in the metropolitan region of Melbourne and in rural Victoria since July 2004, the project aims to develop, implement and document an effective service model that responds in an effective, compassionate, appropriate and timely manner to those bereaved by suicide.

There are two Regional Co-ordinator positions in this new initiative, the StandBy After Suicide program. This involves establishing and implementing the StandBy program in two areas in Victoria: north west/south east metropolitan Melbourne; and eastern Melbourne/Gippsland.

About the role

The StandBy After Suicide Regional Coordinator is responsible for coordination of the StandBy Service across the region (either northwest/southeast Melbourne or easternMelbourne/Gippsland). This includes coordinating, overseeing and delivering support for people bereaved or impacted by suicide, community engagement, education and training, as well as leading the StandBy team in the area.

There are two full time roles; one based in northwest/southeast Melbourne and the other in easternMelbourne/Gippsland. The successful applicants must reside in the area.

Candidate Requirements

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • Leadership and program coordination
  • Working with people bereaved through suicide or experience in dealing with acute personal trauma and/or bereavement
  • Consulting and working collaboratively with communities and other stakeholders
  • Delivery of community development, education and capacity building initiatives
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with partner organisations and with the leadership of Jesuit Social Services.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly according to changing needs and demands.
