About the program

Navigator is a program funded by state government which aims to support disengaged learners aged 12 to 17 years old to re-engage with an education or training pathway.

Jesuit Social Services is delivering Navigator in the North Eastern Melbourne area in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency and will be working closely with local schools and services and the regional Department of Education and Training office.

About the role

Two exciting opportunities exists for suitably experienced and qualified individuals to take on case worker roles with this initiative.

This role will be responsible for providing individually tailored support to disengaged learners within the context of their families, whilst developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across a range of sectors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Engaging and building rapport with young people and their families
  • Undertaking assessments
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing re-engagement plans to address the barriers to a young person’s disengagement
  • Fostering strong and positive relationships with program partners, schools, DET, local agencies and other related professionals

A base salary of $74,179 per annum, plus superannuation and salary packaging is offered, together with ongoing professional and career development.

Candidate requirements

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Providing appropriate individually tailored interventions, case management, intensive support, crisis intervention and assertive outreach to support children, young people and families from vulnerable communities;
  • Capacity to work with a high degree of cultural competency and understanding of culturally appropriate service delivery in relation to Aboriginal and CALD young people, their families and communities;
  • Building and fostering relationships with a diversity of stakeholders;
  • Experience working with families and ability to use a range of strategies around family issues such as family violence, family breakdown and school withdrawal.
