Case Manager - Specialist Housing

Jesuit Social Services

About the Organisation

Jesuit Social Services has been working for over 40 years delivering support services and advocating for improved policies, legislation and resources to achieve strong, cohesive and vibrant communities where every individual can play their role and flourish.

Jesuit Social Services is a social change organisation working to build a just society where all people can live to their full potential. We work where the need is greatest and where we have the capacity, experience and skills to make the most difference.

About the Justice Programs

Our Justice programs provide support for people involved in the justice system or who are exiting adult prisons and/or Youth Justice Precincts, assessed as high risk/need, with limited social and family networks, limited accommodation and post-release support options and often with multiple and complex health concerns.

Our approach to working with those involved in the criminal justice system uses empowerment as a key practice principle, with a focus on skills and strengths rather than deficits, and self-determination and responsibility rather than dependency.

The Maribyrnong Community Residential Facility (MCRF) Transitional Support Program is looking for a case manager to join our team.

The MCRF provides an accommodation option for men assessed as suitable for a residential facility, with a strong focus on risk and community safety. The facility provides accommodation for men exiting prison onto parole, CCOs or straight release.

To be eligible, men need to have no immediate access to suitable housing on release from prison (no other available options) and need accommodation support to comply with the Government’s social distancing requirements under the Chief Health Officer’s Directions. All serious sex offenders and high risk serious violent offenders are excluded from eligibility for the facility.

This exciting Pilot program is a partnership between Corrections Victoria and Jesuit Social Services. Jesuit Social Services delivers pre- and post-release case management and transition support to men at the facility, including access to longer term housing, assistance to attend health services, access to learning and vocational opportunities and links to cultural support. The focus of the work is to support men to successfully transition to independent living in their communities of choice.

About the Role

We seek a qualified, experienced and enthusiastic individual to deliver housing focused case management and outreach support to men on the program. This role will work at the Maribyrnong Community Residential Facility in Maidstone with outreach services delivered across metropolitan Melbourne. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and implementing housing plans and supporting men to access and establish medium and long term housing options in the community.

This role is a full time contract position backfilling for maternity leave for 9 months.

  • An understanding and empathy for the challenges facing men as they transition from custody to the community in particular those associated with homelessness and housing instability
