Jesuit Refugee Service Australia is seeking an experienced professional Casework and Emergency Relief Manager for a fixed term Maternity Leave Cover, to lead a highly skilled team of workers supporting the casework, information and referral, emergency relief and accompaniment needs of people seeking asylum and other migrants in vulnerable situations.

A passion for and a commitment to ensuring the rights of forcibly displaced people is essential and people with lived experience of displacement are strongly encouraged to apply.

Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organisation with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. As an independent, not-for-profit, non-government organisation JRS Australia undertakes several activities and programs to support the complex and diverse needs and ambitions of people seeking asylum. JRS Australia operates from Head Office, as well as from the dedicated JRS Women’s Space both located in Parramatta.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Casework and Emergency Relief Manager, you will be drawing upon your extensive management experience to lead a team that includes a complex caseworker, food and material aid workers, volunteers and social work student interns. Your attention to detail and interpersonal skills will support you to provide supervision, advice and direction to the team and you will work closely with other team leads across the organisation including with the Finding Safety Project Manager, Employment Support Program Manager, and the Policy, Advocacy and Communications team.

You will participate in strategic planning and lead program planning in partnership with the Acting Country Director and other key members of the team including our accounts and administration team members.

This role is a fixed term Maternity Leave cover until 1st August 2025. 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, welfare or another relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in successfully leading and supporting diverse, high-performance teams within a complex operating environment or demonstrated capacity to do so.
  • Sound understanding of issues faced by people seeking asylum, refugees, and migrants in vulnerable situations in the Australian context.
  • Extensive casework experience, including conducting assessments, providing information and referral, and managing complex cases.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage competing deadlines, prioritise workload appropriately and work in a flexible manner.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and with senior management.
  • Competent in using MS Office and online database/reporting systems.
  • Commitment to the application of strengths-based, rights-based and trauma informed approaches in the design and implementation of programs and services.
  • Commitment to human rights and gender equality.
  • Commitment to working within current EEO, WH&S, and child protection legislation.

Desirable:

  • Experience in developing policies and procedures, and in risk management.
  • Proficiency in relevant community language/s.
  • Lived or living experience of displacement

Award

SCHADS Level 6.1

This is a part-time 0.8 FTE, Maternity Leave position contracted until 1st August 2025.

Applicants will be subject to a Working with Children Check and the National Criminal Record Check.
