The Organisation

Based in the northern suburbs (with flexible working options), the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation that supports and advocates for Aboriginal children, families, and community. VACCA is committed to its vision of self-determination – Live, Experience, and Be. It advocates for children and other vulnerable community members and shows respect for, observance of, and compliance with, Aboriginal cultural protocols, practice, and ceremony.

The Position

The HR Manager will work in partnership with VACCA’s leadership to maximise VACCA’s impact in delivering high-quality client services through the efforts of their employees. The Human Resources Team provides advice, coaching, and support on employee relations, work performance discussions, remuneration, award, and policy interpretation, WorkCover and return to work, and working from home arrangements. Occupational health and safety, recruitment, and payroll are also critical parts of the HR services at VACCA.

The key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Providing expert HR knowledge and advice, along with the ability to execute operationally and think strategically
  • Develop change management processes and work with others to implement change in a culturally respectful way
  • Effectively leading, engaging, and motivating the HR team
  • Taking a lead role in the strategic and operational management of OH&S
  • Identifying and taking appropriate steps to manage and mitigate risk
  • Support and contribute to HR programs and take the lead on HR initiatives and projects

The Person

About you:

  • Prior experience in an HR Manager function (not-for-profit sector experience advantageous, but not essential)
  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications and/or substantial experience in these fields is desirable
  • Passionate about people and supporting those in need, in line with the organisation’s values
  • Demonstrated resilience, flexibility, and the ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Great interpersonal skills, time management, and commitment to high-quality customer service
  • Proficiency with an HRIS, MS Office, and intranet-base is highly desirable.
