About VACRO

VACRO is a non-government, non-denominational organisation working with people in contact with the justice system and their families. Founded in 1872 (as the Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society of Victoria), VACRO works closely with government and non-profit organisations.

The Opportunity

Working with a dynamic Development team, you will lead VACRO’s criminal justice policy work. Using VACRO’s deep knowledge of the criminal justice sector, your work will focus on policies that help create new beginnings for people caught in the criminal justice system, and their families.

Your strong research and policy background will enable you to successfully implement VACRO’s policy priorities by taking advantage of strategic opportunities to influence developments in the corrections and justice sectors. Use your outstanding research and writing skills to develop rigorous and creative content that influences government, policy makers and the public.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in social sciences or a related field or other relevant field.
  • Outstanding research experience and skills including the ability to analyse, synthesise and summarise complex information from a range of sources and develop recommendations on policy.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience producing writing that is final version quality ready for publication.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complex issues relating to people who have been in contact with the criminal justice system, particularly those who have been incarcerated and their families highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, government and political processes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff and research collaborators, seeking their opinions, involving them in decision making and communicating findings in a timely and relevant manner.
