The Events & Community Relations Officer is responsible for engaging with our community in a meaningful way through the JHC public program of events as well as our community relations, in particular the stewardship of relationships with certain like-minded community groups.

ABOUT US

The Jewish Holocaust Centre is Australia’s largest institution solely dedicated to Holocaust education, research, and remembrance, fostering the values of tolerance and understanding, and preserving the testimonies of our Survivors.

Established by Survivors in 1984, the Centre is now an award-winning Museum and Research Centre, which enjoys an enviable reputation. Annually our education programs are attended by over 23,000 students, we hold over 100 events, and welcome thousands of local and international visitors.

The Centre houses more than 1,500 Survivor testimonies, approximately 20,000 artefacts from both the pre-war and Holocaust eras and mounts professional and well attended special exhibitions.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development of the annual events program, in consultation with the Engagement Manager, the Museum Director & CEO and others.
  • Events coordination inclusive of bump-in, bump-out, setting up ticketing, managing digital events, budgeting, financial reporting, communications, advertising, public relations, promotion, debriefing and lessons learned.
  • Working closely with the Volunteer Coordinator and with volunteers to facilitate/support events and managing them in this.
  • Working on volunteer engagement, including, but not limited to, the production of a monthly newsletter to keep volunteers abreast of JHC activities.
  • Be mindful of the importance of community engagement; need to manage multiple influencers and their expectations well.
  • Identifying and stewarding relations with groups, formal and informal, whose mission is aligned with JHC, such as Child Survivors, Descendants of the Shoah, the Buchenwald Boys and various Landsmannschaft (survivors of specific pre-war towns), as well as other Jewish community groups.
  • The JHC brand, mission, vision and values are to be fully represented in this role, both in enforcing and upholding each of these.
  • Time management and adherence with priorities is of utmost importance.
  • Working independently with initiative as well as in line with the direction of the Engagement Manager is essential, especially when dealing with multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines. Ensuring timeliness and accuracy whilst working across a range of activities is key to the success of this role.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

The appointee will have:

  • A certificate or diploma in communication or events management and subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • A certificate, diploma or degree in marketing and communications; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Knowledge of events management, public relations and media relations.
  • Experience with ticketing platforms, tele-conferencing and webinars.
  • Demonstrable content delivery knowledge and experience
  • Experience and knowledge of CRM systems and eDM
  • Team player with a can-do attitude
  • Eye for detail and dedication to data integrity
  • Good time management and stakeholder management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, inclusive of copywriting and copyediting
  • Strong organisational and task completion skills
