Guided by the strategies of Indigenous leaders, Jawun seeks to foster long term partnerships that build sustainable capacity in Indigenous organisations and communities.

Corporate and government Australia through Jawun, send their employees on secondments to transfer skills and build capacity within Indigenous organisations. Our model is place-based, and we work across 11 regions in Australia. We rely on the Regional Managers/Directors to establish and foster relationships with our Indigenous partner organisations and lead a quality secondee experience.

About the role

Jawun has a full-time opportunity for a resilient and highly motivated individual to join our national team and be based in Kununurra. This unique position requires an individual with a strong sense of self and is a fantastic opportunity for someone seeking a challenging yet extremely rewarding position. Working to tight and shifting timeframes, project management, report writing, being on the ground (including camping) and autonomous thinking represents just some of what this role has to offer.

This is a key role with the Regional Director accountable for building trust and delivering on agreed priorities with our Indigenous partners as well as managing our secondee program. This role is instrumental to providing a committed permanent Jawun presence in the region and ensuring the efficient use of secondees so that these skilled professionals can make a meaningful contribution in pursuit of Indigenous led reforms.

The successful applicant will be provided with logistical and administration support from our head office in Sydney and report to the General Manager, Regions.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role you will be someone who aligns to and is able to advocate for the Reform Agenda which the East Kimberley region are leading. Moreover, you will have:

  • A background in community development and/or experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders in a senior capacity
  • Proven experience in working autonomously as well as in a leadership team with the ability to multi-task and prioritise work effectively
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, extensive report writing capabilities and active listening skills
  • Confidence, charisma, presentation skills and the ability to lead a group
  • The ability to manage and resolve conflict
  • The ability to engage, build strong relationships and rapport with a variety of stakeholders (from secondees to Indigenous leaders) and manage a wide range of personal styles
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible
