Senior Counsellor and Mental Health Team Leader - Illawarra

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Manage the Centre’s mental health and domestic and family violence team according to the Centre’s feminist philosophy and practice. This includes direct supervision and mentoring and managing the:
    • rosters and staff caseloads
    • client intake process and client pool
    • monitoring and evaluation framework for assessing and progressing clients
  • Provide counselling services to individual clients, including psycho-social assessments, information giving, advocacy and therapeutic counselling in a client-centred framework.
  • Liaise and participate with the Centre’s health care team through discussion, advocacy, education, case reviews and clear clinical recording to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in the development, facilitation and evaluation of therapeutic, education/support groups as time and workload allows.
  • Establish and maintain a client record utilising Medical Director for each individual client in keeping with NSW Health guidelines and legislative requirements.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications / training
  • At least five years’ experience managing a community based mental health team
  • A feminist understanding/analysis of women’s issues/women’s health issue
  • An ability to work safely with women of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Experience in counselling women, including those who have experienced domestic and family violence, child abuse, use of alcohol and other drugs, depression, grief and loss, low self-esteem, using a trauma and violence informed approach.

You must have a current NSW Drivers Licence, National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Police Check.

The successful applicant will be offered a permanent part time position. A remuneration package commensurate with professional experience will be offered, based on the SCHADS Award. The Illawarra Women's Health Centre is a union supporting workplace.
