Reporting directly to the CEO, The HR Business Partner (HRBP) position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management within the organisation. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to develop people management and leadership capability that enables leaders to create a more effective employee experience, drive employee engagement and achieve operational outcomes.

Please note this is a Fixed Term - 12 month contract position.

Key Responsibilities and Outcomes

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organisation.
  • Conducts regular meetings with respective leadership members.
  • Consults with executive, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
  • Analyses trends and metrics in partnership with the Executive to develop solutions, guidelines and policies.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with external legal and employment advice as needed/required.
  • Provides day-to-day employee performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counselling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Works closely with leadership and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met.
  • Assistance with Enterprise Agreement negotiations
  • The ability to create real change using a variety of different strategies
  • Understanding the operational needs of a diverse business
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Selection criteria - Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a degree in a Human Resources
  • Minimum of 3 years in a HR generalist role with exposure at strategic and operational level
  • Experience resolving complex employee relations issues
  • Ability to coach others to build capacity and confidence in managing people
  • Good understanding of employment legislation, industrial agreements and contemporary HR Practice
  • Excellent relationship management, interpersonal, negotiating and influencing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with ability to create understandable and accessible documentation
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Well developed time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to manage fluid demands, interruptions and priorities to balance workload and achieve objectives
  • Ability to look beyond compliance orientated HR to develop innovative, effective solutions to meet the organisational needs
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
  • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organisation’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organisational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws
  • Current driver’s licence and Blue Card
  • Committed to the National Standards for Child Safe Organisation
  • All DVAC staff are required to complete a National Police Check upon successful offer of position
