About Us

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people living in South-East Queensland.

The Moreton Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (MATSICHS) Family Wellbeing Service (FWS) is a part of the IUIH network in Moreton Bay. The MATSICHS FWS’s primary purpose is to walk alongside Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children and families to support, build, and strengthen their health and wellbeing. In doing so, it links into the varied supports, programs and model offered by the IUIH network. Some of these internal services include our GP and Allied Health Clinics, the IUIH Australian Nurse-Family Partnership Program (ANFPP), Birthing in our Community (BioC), Legal Service, and Social Health team.

About the Role

As the FWS Intake Assessment Officer, you will work alongside our Administration Officer, providing a professional and culturally sensitive entry point into the Family Wellbeing Service. In doing so, you will:

  • Complete intake assessments, in-person and ideally at the family’s home
  • Take a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive approach into your daily work
  • Provide information and advice on services families can expect from our service
  • Triage completed intakes for allocation to the Brief Case Management Team, Ongoing Case Management Teams, or referral to an external provider
  • Contribute and participate in quality improvement processes that develop more effective practice, outcomes and procedures
  • Be a team player who values diversity. Our full team consists of staff from a variety of ages, life experience, and cultural backgrounds
  • Develop networks internally and externally to enable appropriate community support and connection for families entering our service
  • Manage our high number of referrals with a strong work ethic and ability to prioritise your daily workload
  • Based in our Morayfield Office 

About You

Essentials:

  • Completed Tertiary level qualification in Social Work, Human Services or equivalent
  • Current QLD Drivers Licence
  • Criminal History Check (willing to obtain)
  • Valid QLD Blue Card (must have prior to commencing employment)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates
  • Must have had at least 1 dose of a COVID-19 vaccine prior to commencement
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Identify as an Aboriginal &/ or Torres Strait Islander
