About the Role

We are now looking for a driven Dockers’ Regional Lead Campaigner to support and advance campaigns and organising projects for dockers and port workers, in the Asia Pacific region based in our Sydney Office, Australia.

Reporting to the Dockers Section Coordinator, this role will manage, implement and monitor Section campaigns and projects in various countries in the region and develop a network of regional contacts with key stakeholders that are critical to the success of campaigns and projects. 

This role will be responsible for engaging with section chairs and providing comprehensive campaign and project reports and updates for both the Section Coordinator and the Section Chairs. The Regional Lead Campaigner will be responsible for the coordination of effective communication between the Dockers Section and the Asia Pacific sub-regional offices, the Communications Department, other Sections, Regions and Departments and relevant ITF affiliates including the ITF inspectorate. 

About you

The Dockers Regional Lead Campaigner will have proven knowledge and experience of the maritime industry, preferably working with dockers, whilst drawing upon extensive experience in a trade union or social movement setting to support and facilitate the work of the Dockers Section. 

The successful candidate will also have:

  • A working knowledge of new campaigning and organising technologies, as well as other traditional methods.
  • The ability to work independently, as the role will be based regionally and direction and support from the Section Coordinator will mostly be given via video conferencing platforms such as Bluejeans and Zoom.
  • A proven history of successful campaigning and organising through detailed planning and budgeting, as well as the deployment of effective evaluation methodology.
  • Experience of successfully organising and campaigning for maritime workers across a range of countries and cultures.
  • Experience of campaigning for equal opportunities and the promotion of women and young workers in a union environment. 
  • A track record of building positive, productive and meaningful relationships with employers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to prepare, promote and deliver campaign and organising project material to internal and external audiences
  • Knowledge of an Asia Pacific language, which is desirable but not essential.
