  • Employment Status: Full time 35 hours’ temporary for six month leave cover (with possibility of extension). The two roles can be split into two part-time positions.
  • Classification: SCHADS Level 7 - 8 (depending on skills and experience)
  • Reporting to: Inner Sydney Voice Board of Management
  • Directly Supervising: Staff team 6 full-time workers, casual staff, and volunteers.
  • Relationships: Works closely with other providers, Government and Non-Government agencies, and relevant community groups.

The Organisation

Inner Sydney Voice is the trading name of Inner Sydney Regional Council for Social Development, a not-for-profit organisation established in 1974.

We work in the local government areas of Bayside, Inner West, Randwick, City of Sydney, Waverley and Woollahra to provide information, advocacy, and support within a community development framework to community organisations, groups and residents. The role

Our current Executive officer is on long term leave, therefore, we are seeking an initial temporary cover for period of six months.

This is an opportunity to build on your experience in the sector and gain experience in a senior management and sector development role within a regional community sector peak agency.

You will manage and developing the organisation in partnership with the board implementing our new strategic plan. You will manage a small, dedicated team of staff from our office in Waterloo.

Inner Sydney Voice receives funding for a range of programs which aim to empower and build capacity within communities, including Aboriginal communities. A key part of the EO role is ensuring these programs are delivered. As a sector specialist, you will also play a leadership role working directly with local organisations, services, community groups and public and social housing communities to develop viable and sustainable services, and coordinate projects which strengthen the voice of inner Sydney communities.

We are looking for flexibly to meet the demands of the post and are actively open to those seeking a professional development secondment opportunity.

We are also open to consider job-share proposals where the role could be split between management and sector support duties.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Community work, management or social work or equivalent
  • Experience in senior management or organisational leadership
  • Experience in sector development, training or capacity building
  • Experience in understanding accounts and managing budgets

Experience

  • Previous management experience of at least 5 years.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor and support the professional development of other staff and organisations.
  • Understanding of community organisations and not for profit sector governance, financial, administrative standards, oversight and functions
  • Good understanding of NSW Government’s community development programs including the Targeted Early Intervention (TEI) reform programs.
  • Experience in developing, facilitating and/or leading programs that support the development of other organisations and community groups.
  • Experience in dealing with government bodies and funders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be well versed in Reflective Practice principles and Self-Care

Management role

  • The Executive Officer role is the most senior staff position in the organisation.
  • The Executive Officer is responsible to the Board of Management of Inner Sydney Voice.
  • The position has overall responsibility for managing the organisation in an effective manner including staff, and program management at the direction of the board.
  • The Executive Officer is a senior representative of the organisation in forums with key stakeholders and within the community.

The role is responsible for:

  • Planning and managing resource allocations that maximise outcomes for the organisation in line with our strategic and operational plans, funding contracts and in conjunction with the Board.
  • Providing oversight of our accounts, operating within the annual budget and ensuring financial management and policies are up-to-date.
  • Ensuring effective implementation of our organisation’s policies and procedures.
  • Developing and implementing effective monitoring and data systems that highlight the organisation's progress and inform organisational development.
  • Supporting and resourcing staff in the execution of all operational matters ensuring high standards of practice at all times.
  • Ensuring planning strategies are in place to meet and maintained the required staffing levels for outputs and activities across the organisation.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders including politicians, the media and government officials in order to advance the organisation’s aims.
  • Ensuring our communication strategy and other marketing activities are developed and implemented.
  • Ensuring compliance with legal obligations and service agreements, including provision of acquittal reports, statistical information and participation in monitoring processes with funders.

Sector support

  • Ensure that ISV’s Targeted Early Intervention Community Connections and Community Support contract obligations are met. The role will have primary responsible for delivering local programs funded through Targeted Early Intervention program. For the purposes of job sharing it is estimated the TEI component of this role will be between 21 and 28 hours per week.
  • Sustain current, and develop new, activities, resources, strategies, and develop tools that will assist community sector organisations and community groups to build their effectiveness in service delivery and organisational practice.
  • Facilitate capacity building sessions with local community groups and services.
  • Lead on consultations on local community planning issues.
  • Advocate and support policy and program development in the sector including making written submissions.
  • Support and maximise relevant stakeholder’s involvement in local planning and development process.
  • Facilitate local partnership projects and inter agencies.
  • Represent our members / region at high-level Sector or government consultation processes.
  • Use social media, Inner Sydney Voice magazine and other communication channels to inform organisations’ and individuals about activities and issues and to support the sector.

Other duties

  • Ensure Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures are implemented as per the organisations Occupational Health Policies and relevant legislation.
  • Ensure risk management oversight in conjunction with the Board.
  • Ensure staffs are appropriately trained and supported to complete their various roles.
  • Ensure we comply with child protection and working with vulnerable people legislation and are up-to-date with good practice within the workplace.
  • Ensure compliance as a mandatory reporter, where there are reasonable grounds to suspect that a child or an individual is at risk of harm.
