The General Manager role is responsible to manage operations of the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV). The primary responsibility of the role is to provide services that are high-quality, commercially viable, effective, contemporary and flexible. The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and supervision of all employees within the programs. The General Manager will ensure effective mechanisms are in place to monitor and review program performance and provide strategic direction to guide program development.

Relationship to the ICV Board

The General Manager (GM) serves in partnership with the Board of the Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) and together are responsible for the success of the Organisation. The Board and the GM assure ICV’s relevance to the community, the accomplishment of ICV’s mission and vision, and the accountability of ICV to its diverse constituents.

The Board delegates responsibility for management of staff and day-to-day operations to the GM, and s/he has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The GM provides direction and advice to the Board as it carries out its governance functions.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Share ICV’s values, mission, and vision.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of and experience in management and administration.
  • Have demonstrated experience in developing and fostering community relationships, business partnerships and corporate sponsorships.
  • Have demonstrated knowledge and capacity to manage complex projects.
  • Have demonstrated experience in programming and managing events or public venues to deliver audience and stakeholder outcomes.
  • Possess a leadership style that fosters supportive and collegiate teams.
  • Have knowledge of and a genuine interest in multiculturalism, cultural diversity, and social inclusion, and will be comfortable with diversity and respectful of a wide range of faiths, beliefs, and experiences.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to undertake and supervise the development and writing of proposals, tender submissions and reviews within specified timelines and budgetary constraints.
  • Possess demonstrated experience in service design and improvement, policy, and procedure development, and leading best and leading practice initiatives.
  • Have experience in leading and working with Islamic NGOs in Australia.
  • Have experience in the field of philanthropy, not-for-profit management and governance, and community relations (preferred).
  • Have general knowledge of fund development.
  • Have high level of personal skills to make formal, persuasive presentations to groups and to deal effectively with people from all segments of the community.

Tertiary qualifications in a management related field or substantial equivalent experience are essential.

An understanding of and experience in working with the Muslim community in Victoria is highly desirable.

Remuneration:

  • $125,000 including superannuation. Other benefits specified below. Can be negotiated
  • A six (6) month probationary period
  • Award: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award
