About us

St. Mary’s House of Welcome is a purpose driven and faith based organisation. Inspired by the spirit of the Daughters of Charity, St Mary’s House of Welcome seeks to further social justice by standing with disadvantaged people offering support, solutions and hope. We have over 50 years’ experience providing services to people experiencing marginalisation, disadvantage, social isolation and homelessness and have a non-judgmental ‘open door’ service approach to our community. St Mary’s House of Welcome is a place where everyone is welcomed, opportunities for social connection are created, and practical support, structured programs, information and referral are provided.

About the role

This is a great opportunity for an entry level finance professional only looking to work 2 days per week (ideally one of which is a Thursday) to provide support to the Business Manager and CEO in a small, dynamic organisation that is making a real and positive difference in the lives of others. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all accounting processes (including payroll) are carried out with a high degree of accuracy
  • Producing statistical and management reports and Financial Statements as required
  • Assisting with preparation of Account Reconciliations for annual audit working file
  • Banking and Bank reconciliations
  • Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable management
  • Maintaining Fixed Asset Register and Depreciation Schedules (Using MS: Excel)
  • Assisting with preparation of budgets
  • Proactively contributing to and supporting the organisation's mission and strategic goals

The ideal candidate is genuinely seeking part-time work on a permanent basis - and is looking for a great opportunity to work directly with the Business Manager in a key support role that can grow and develop over time. As it is a ‘hands on’ role you will need to be comfortable completing lower level tasks including data entry and assisting the Business Manager and CEO with a range of support tasks.

Key requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting/finance
  • Experience in a Finance support role (ideally within the not for profit sector) will be an advantage
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and advanced administrative competency
  • Open, cooperative, proactive and flexible in your approach to working with and supporting others
  • Inspired and passionate about the mission and values that underpin the work of St Mary’s House of Welcome
