We have over 50 years’ experience providing services to people experiencing marginalisation, disadvantage, social isolation and homelessness and have a non-judgmental ‘open door’ service approach to our community. About the role

Our proactive service model is based upon the understanding that “not one size fits all” and recognises that service users often present in crisis (episodic) and come with a multitude of support issues, barriers to accessing traditional support offerings and complexities. In addition to experiencing homelessness or unsafe or insecure housing, they can present with histories of trauma, substance use/abuse, diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health conditions, a range of disabilities, and are culturally and linguistically diverse. We work together as a team to provide a safe and supportive environment for service users, volunteers and staff. Key activities and responsibilities include:

  • Actively engaging with service users in a manner that is respectful, non-judgmental and accepting of the dignity of each individual
  • Providing responsive and flexible short-term case management and providing continual support towards recovery and positive outcomes
  • Developing and maintaining referral pathways
  • Managing documentation and reporting in accordance with relevant government, funding and organisational requirements
  • Proactively contributing to and supporting the organisation's mission, strategic goals and objectives

Key requirements

In addition to exceptional communication, interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in mental health, social work, community development or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in homelessness and/or mental health case management - engaging vulnerable clients with complex needs in a direct service delivery role and providing appropriate support using a person-centred strength’s-based framework
  • Knowledge of the homeless sector and mental health services and demonstrated experience/knowledge of the broader welfare sector and service referral pathways
  • A positive, collaborative, recovery focused approach
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an open, cooperative, proactive and flexible approach
  • Clear and current National Police, Working with children and DWES checks
  • Commitment to the mission and values that underpin the work of St Mary’s House of Welcome
