Our client, a successful Not for Profit, have initiated significant review and reform over the last four years and have cultivated a unique environment delivering services to many of their clients. This is driven by a shared desire to achieve the best outcomes they can for people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and disadvantage.

As an Assessment Worker you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Rapport building in a crisis setting
  • Engaging with people in distress primarily over the phone
  • Working with diverse cohorts - single adults, young people, families, elderly people, LGBTQIA+, Aboriginal, people with disabilities etc
  • Detailed holistic assessments (focused on housing, mental health, physical health, drug and alcohol, income, family violence, family and community supports)
  • Early intervention work liaising with real estate agents to prevent eviction
  • Experience in the housing sector or specialised in similar fields (eg. family violence) but have previously managed housing work for clients before
  • Knowledge of realistic housing options and challenges faced in sourcing emergency accommodation
  • Knowledge of relevant funding sources, support organisations, local area (Hume/Moreland).

Some of your duties will include:

  • Undertaking assessments with clients that focus on their experiences, identified strengths and risks, as well as personal aspirations;
  • The provision of information on a range of relevant topics including housing options, tenancy legislation, and allied service systems;
  • Advocating on behalf of clients especially in relation to working with real estate agents and housing providers;
  • Arranging crisis accommodation for clients using resources such as Housing Establishment Funds;
  • Completing referrals to, and assisting clients to navigate a range of services/service gateways;

Your previous experience in working in a community or social services setting combined with expertise in providing support to clients who have experienced trauma or disadvantage. You will be able to demonstrate relevant tertiary qualifications in Community Service, Social Work, Housing Management or Youth Work. Finally, the ability to articulate and communicate at all levels will set you up for success.
