The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) is an independent NSW Government agency that makes the people of NSW better off through independent decisions and advice.

We regulate water, public transport, local government, electricity and gas industries. We also undertake reviews and investigations into a wide range of economic and policy issues at the NSW Government’s request.

About the role

We are looking for 2 Policy Officers to join a collaborative and high performing team within IPART. You will be provided with the opportunity to take active ownership of your work, be exposed to different industries and be involved in the decision making process.

Your work will involve supporting the delivery of detailed research and technical analysis for reviews, and ensuring that the findings are presented concisely and accurately. You will also support the team in developing these findings into decisions and recommendations to the NSW Government and made publicly available in our reports.

Some examples of current and recent work undertaken by our team are:

• Solar feed-in tariff benchmarks – reviewing how much customers could expect to be paid by their retailer for their solar electricity when they export it to the grid
• Review of the NSW funeral industry–investigating whether the choice of funeral providers and services available are meeting people’s needs and whether the prices charged are appropriate
• Home building compensation fund –reviewing the efficiency and effectiveness of the last resort home building compensation scheme in protecting homeowners
• Rural and regional bus fares – setting maximum fares for public bus services provided by private bus operators in rural and regional NSW, including on-demand services
• Ethanol– determining the wholesale price of ethanol fuel (used in E10 petrol) and monitoring the retail price of E10.
