Child & Family Services Ballarat (Cafs) is a community service organisation that provides a range of programs and services to children, young people and families who are vulnerable or in need of support. Cafs has a long history of supporting families within the Ballarat region currently has positions available for Residential Care House Supervisors and Assistant House Supervisors.

Providing leadership to a close-knit team, Residential Care House Supervisors and Assistant House Supervisors are responsible for:

  • Providing leadership and excellent role modelling to staff and young people, ensuring safety, structure and security in the unit
  • Overseeing the unit on a day to day basis including provision of care, nurture and development of the young people
  • Creating and supporting a positive team approach and culture
  • Managing the financial responsibilities, recording and reconciling expenses and monitoring expenditure
  • Contributing to ensuring that Cafs complies with program requirements
  • Conducting daily domestic duties including menu planning, cooking, cleaning, laundry and shopping
  • Transporting young people using a Cafs vehicle to various locations including school, appointments, shopping, camps and family visits
  • Accurately completing all relevant documentation for young people including reports, medication sheets and case notes
  • Assisting with conflict resolution and fostering positive relationships between clients

If you are seeking a position where you can have a positive influence on the quality of life for young people and you are a natural leader this role is for you. Your ability to role model appropriate behaviours, along with your caring nature, high level communication skills and problem-solving abilities will ensure that you will have a positive impact with the young people in the residential care facilities. Previous experience in residential care work or similar experience is required for these supervisory roles. You will ideally have previous experience in leading and managing people and will have well developed skills in engaging and influencing, problem solving and exercising judgement and be able to make decisions in high pressure environments.

To be a Residential Care House Supervisor or Assistant House Supervisor, you’ll need to have completed or be enrolled to complete a Cert IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home Care) or a relevant qualification and be willing to complete a top up of mandatory units. Further information on relevant qualifications and mandatory units can be downloaded below. You will need to hold a current Level 2 First Aid and CPR qualification prior to commencing in this role.

Cafs Enterprise Agreement provides significant family-friendly benefits above the award, including generous salary packaging, additional special paid leave over Christmas and New Year, additional one week annual leave for Residential Care Workers/Supervisors who are rostered to work 10 or more Saturdays or Sundays over a twelve month period, purchase up to 4 weeks additional leave per year and generous personal/carer leave provisions.
