About the Organisation

The Indigenous Consumer Assistance Network Ltd. (ICAN) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Cairns, North Queensland. ICAN provides consumer education, advocacy and financial counselling assistance services for all Indigenous Australians. Our vision is 'Empowering Indigenous Consumers.'

The Position

ICAN Financial Capability Trainer will work collaboratively with the Financial Capability Team to plan, develop, implement and evaluate the delivery of all ICAN training initiatives, including to ICAN Learn, which is a subsidiary of ICAN.

Successful Candidate

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will work with other ICAN business units to liaise, design, train, deliver and evaluate various financial capability training programs for Indigenous consumer groups.

The successful candidate in collaboration with the Financial Capability Team will work with key stakeholders within the philanthropic, government, industry and community sectors to promote the development of collaborative financial empowerment models.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience attained through previous roles in building the capacity of individuals, communities, community projects and related work.
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience as a trainer delivering training to a diverse group of people.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating training workshops as well as managing customer relationships.
  • Qualified with a relevant training tertiary qualification and/or relevant professional experience.
  • To have direct community contacts and a history of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant issues and protocols associated with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, councils and associated groups.
  • Strong interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong decision making skills with a flexible attitude, enthusiasm and an open mind to challenges.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with and for people experiencing vulnerable circumstances
  • Willing to travel and provide financial capability training to people in prisons.

Desirable

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110 or TAE40116 or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of financial capability and proven ability to provide financial capability programs.
  • Experience with the development of webinars.

Benefits

We offer above Award rates working 36.25 hours per week, full-time equivalent and five weeks annual leave with ongoing development and salary packaging. Salary range of $78,000 - $86,000 per annum.

To perform this role it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is, therefore, a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
