The Position

International Justice Mission Australia, established in 2014, is an independent Australian organisation that partners with IJM Global to deliver justice programs overseas and grow the movement of Australians seeking justice for the oppressed.

IJM Australia Ltd is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader for the position of Chief Executive Officer. The CEO will assume overall leadership responsibility for the organisation. Reporting to and working closely with the Board, the CEO is responsible for growing IJM Australia in line with IJM Global’s 2030 Vision and IJM Australia’s three (3) year strategy of mobilising Australian expertise and financial resources to enhance justice programs overseas, mobilising and supporting the Australian church to live out the biblical call to seek justice, and establishing IJM Australia’s credibility as a leading voice on justice for the oppressed.

Areas of particular engagement include developing and executing strategic and operational plans, fundraising, guiding marketing and communications strategies, leading a small dedicated professional team of staff and volunteers, managing significant stakeholder relationships, and business development and oversight of financial management and regulatory compliance.

This position reports to the IJM Australia Board of Directors with a dotted line reporting to the Regional President of Asia Pacific.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will exemplify IJM’s values and bring proven senior leadership experience over medium to large-sized organisations. It is therefore critical that candidates support this value and can demonstrate authentic team leadership in spiritual formation and health.

This innovative and proven leader will guide the vision, strategy and team in the Australia in alignment with IJM’s 2030 Vision in order to catalyse and fuel a movement of revenue, prayer and policy change to scale the protection of the poor from violence around the world. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building, empowering and nurturing strong healthy and innovative teams to achieve ambitious objectives. Given the culture of collegiality it is critical that the successful candidate have a naturally engaging style and can build strong relationships both internally, with staff and volunteers, and externally with key stakeholder groups.

Candidates will be driven by a sense of purpose and authentic passion for ensuring vulnerable nations build justice systems that protect the most vulnerable. Candidates will champion IJM’s core values in terms of decision making and behaviour and are easily able to engage and collaborate with people around them regardless of level and background in order to engage Australians in the fight against injustice.

Authentic Leadership:

  • Build, lead and develop a team of high-performing, healthy and collaborative leaders and professionals to accomplish ambitious goals set forth in the strategic plan
  • Serve as a servant leader within IJM Australia, grounded in prayer, humbly reliant upon God’s grace and power for wisdom and discernment, and boldly modelling IJM’s core values: Christian, Professional and Bridge Builder
  • Develop and maintain a work culture and environment that emphasises spiritual formation
  • Provide comprehensive oversight of all day-to-day operations of IJM Australia, ensuring ongoing alignment to vision, mission and values and timely progress toward targets defined in strategic and annual work-plans
  • Inspire and effectively manage, through appropriate training, communication and accountability mechanisms, a team of staff and volunteers, maximising the ability of each team member to achieve individual targets and excellence in all activities

Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and execute an inspiring vision and strategic plan in alignment with IJM’s 2030 vision and global strategy that achieves ambitious annual growth in revenue; prayer support; policy change; partnerships; and thought leadership
  • Lead the improvement of marketing, media and communications strategies
  • Lead the development of the annual work plan in alignment IJM Australia and IJM Global’s three (3) year strategic plans, for approval by the Board
  • Work with the Board to prepare the annual budget and other financial plans

External Representation and Business Development:

  • Establish IJM as a leader and credible partner in the fight against global slavery and violence against the poor
  • Represent IJM before government officials, corporations, foundations, media, churches, constituents, other organisations and the general public in forums ranging from individual interviews and meetings to public speaking engagements
  • Identify high-impact opportunities and develop partnerships with strategic stakeholders to expand IJM’s influence, brand, revenue and mission impact
  • Increase support of churches and prayer mobilisation for the work of IJM through a cadre of high performing volunteer speakers, advocates and mobilisers
  • Advance thought leadership and policy change around modern-day slavery and violence against women amongst Australian NGO’s and the Australian government
    Contribute as part of IJM Asia Pacific’s regional leadership team in strategy development and adoption

Organisational Effectiveness:

  • Oversee the development of processes and systems required for the organisation to reach targets and grow
  • Oversee the efficient allocation of all organisational resources, financial and human
  • Represent the interests of IJM Australia to and build solid working relationships with IJM colleagues worldwide, including attending global in-person and virtual conferences and ensuring effective strategic and operational reporting to IJM Global

Financial Management and Compliance:

  • Maintain an effective and transparent relationship with the Board, keeping the Board
    fully informed on the condition of the organisation and all-important factors influencing it
  • Operate within parameters set out in the Delegation of Authority and ensure the organisation operates according to budget and board level policies
  • Oversee the development and implementation of management level policies
    Ensure effective contribution to the development of IJM Global policies and implementation as required
  • Manage, with the assistance of the Board, all corporate governance, compliance with legal and reporting requirements of the workplace and regulatory environment (OH&S, DGR etc.)
  • Manage Operational Risk Management

Required Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in management, law, human rights, development or another relevant field
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in business development, fundraising, marketing, international development, management or another related field
  • Proven ability to lead and scale an organisation in organisational health, brand recognition, revenue generation
  • Senior management experience, including reporting to a Board of Directors
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate through public speaking, written communication and personal relationship development at the highest levels of Government, Corporations and Foundations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sufficient knowledge of the Christian religious, philanthropy, business and development map of Australia, with a demonstrated ability to effectively initiate, develop, nurture and maintain one-on-one relationships with other organisational, business and faith-based leaders

Travel

This position requires 30% travel (domestic and international) throughout the Australia as well as to IJM’s Regional and Global offices.
