The Inner Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network (IELLEN) is seeking to appoint a Field Officer for a brand new role. Whilst we prefer full time (38 hours pw), hours are negotiable for the right candidate.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The SBAT Field Officer will coordinate partnerships with schools, industry, young people and employers. The position is to commence from July 1 2022, for an initial period of twelve months. The role will build partnerships with participating schools and employers and deliver on the following outcomes to support young people:

  • Deliver Job-Ready Micro-Certification to prepare young people for the world of work
  • Deliver an Induction Program to employers to ensure they are prepared to support young people in the world of work
  • Work with schools to outline the SBAT program and recruit interested and identified students
  • Develop a ‘bank’ of employers to host SBATs, through cold calling, marketing and building relationships with employers
  • Communicate with employers around the benefits and requirements of SBATs to ensure young people are supported by employers
  • Assess and survey the local labour market and its needs in order to locate suitable employment opportunities for young people to ensure ongoing sustainable employment
  • Develop relationships with relevant groups - Industry Bodies, Group Training Companies and Australian Apprenticeship Support Services - to assist in employer recruitment and to give young people the broadest range of opportunities possible.

Additional duties

Since 2020 the IELLEN contract with DET has had a focus on achieving KPI’s in sourcing SWL opportunities from employers, and having them “consumed” (ie taken up) by students. This role also supports this part of the DET contract and will support the SWL Program Manager to assist achieving this KPI, and to generally respond to needs of both industry and schools through student placements, focusing on SBAT’s, and also SWL placements.

Key selection criteria

  • Relevant/similar experience is highly regarded
  • Communication skills: demonstrated experience engaging and communicating with different groups of people (school staff, employers, and students) and groups (Industry Bodies, Group Training Companies and Australian Apprenticeship Support Services)
  • Negotiation skills: ability to influence and gain cooperation of internal and external stakeholders to create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships
  • Organisational skills and teamwork: ability to effectively and manage multiple tasks independently and as part of a team; ability to achieve Key performance Indicators
  • Administration: demonstrated experience in data entry/record-keeping, knowledge of Microsoft and Google programs
  • Child safety: must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children, and of children with diverse needs and/or backgrounds.
  • A driver’s license and vehicle.

ABOUT US

The IELLEN is an independent and incorporated (not for profit) association. Our Mission is to improve lives through education, employment, and welfare support, especially for those who vulnerable and at risk - including young people.

The organisation is primarily funded by the Victorian Government through the Department of Education and Training (DET) and, since April 2021, the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR). The DET contract focuses on school – industry engagement. This includes Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) opportunities, School Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) opportunities, as well as school - employer engagement activities.

FURTHER DETAILS

This is a contract role which ends 30 June 2023. However, should the role meet KPIs and funding be available, it is envisaged that a contract may be renewed for a further period. Appointment will be made subject to three months’ probation and clearance from a police background check about working with young people. Superannuation will be paid by the IELLEN at the prescribed rate as specified within the Superannuation Act.

The IELLEN is head quartered in St Kilda. The position will require travel across our catchment, largely the LGAs of Stonnington, Port Phillip and Boroondara.

Renumeration

At the time of writing the pay range is $70,000pa to $80,000pa, plus Super.

However, the IELLEN is finalising an application process to the ACNC for charitable (PBI) status. Assuming this is approved, the position will benefit from salary sacrifice arrangements.

Salary package includes a laptop, mobile phone and a travel allowance.
