Research Associate or Analyst - Australian Electricity

Reporting to IEEFA’s Australasian Research Director in Sydney, the ideal candidate will have relevant experience, a degree in Finance, Accounting or Energy Engineering and ideally an MBA (completed or finishing). You’ll have great attention to detail and be competent and accurate with numbers and spreadsheets. You will bring strong communication skills and be passionate about making a difference on climate change through your evidence-based research.

About IEEFA

The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is a not for profit organisation that conducts research and analyses on financial and economic issues related to energy and the environment. The Institute’s mission is to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy.

Our small, dynamic Sydney based team works collaboratively with IEEFA internationally and in the region, across different energy research areas including the coal, gas and electricity markets.

Position Purpose

The overall purpose of the role is to conduct and disseminate financial analysis relating to the electricity generation sector in Australia and the global transition to renewable energy.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Researching, interpreting and publishing financial data;
  • Financial analysis, financial modelling, and market analysis in Excel;
  • Drafting, formatting and proofing reports, submissions and press releases;
  • Formatting and updating powerpoint presentations;
  • Liaising with other organisations as a representative of IEEFA;
  • Horizon scanning for energy and finance news - downloading and printing press articles, annual reports, investor presentations, industry reports on global electricity markets, coal, renewable energy and energy efficiency; and
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Experience in a similar energy or finance role;
  • Finance degree or similar - you must be a numbers person;
  • Strong with Excel - there is scope for furthering your financial modelling skills learning on the job;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Flexible and highly motivated - you will be working with the Australian Research Director and often autonomously;
  • Integrity, hardworking with a positive, proactive attitude;
  • Motivated by the need to provide evidence-based research to support climate change action - your work will assist IEEFA in its mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy and have the biggest impact possible.

About You

You are keen to undertake valuable research and have a passion for the financial and economic issues that relate to energy. You will have the ability to work independently and remotely, have a positive, enquiring attitude, a desire to learn and are self-motivated.

Package by Negotiation

Full time (flexible), 12 month contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement. FTE range $75-$95k + super, depending upon experience.
