The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking an experienced and talented Editor to work with our Australia-based research team to produce high-quality, accurate and timely content focusing on the energy and finance sectors. The Editor will assist in raising the visibility of our work on Australia’s energy transition by having strong editorial judgement, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to turn complex and technical language into cohesive narratives with key messaging.

The editor will have exceptional attention to detail and a drive to support the analysts to deliver quality content within deadlines. A proactive approach and ‘can do’ attitude is vital to help increase the impact and timeliness of our work.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in the energy and finance sectors in Australia, and indeed globally, and must possess a commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable energy economy. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a significant portion of staff located across the Asia-Pacific region. The Editor will report to the Director of Strategic Communications, Australia/South Asia, working with our dynamic team of analysts and communications specialists based in Australia. This position is a remote work-based role and candidates may be located anywhere in Australia.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years’ experience working in an editing role
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or related field
  • Exceptional copy editing and proofreading skills
  • The ability to edit reports about complex and technical subject matter so that they are understandable to a broad audience
  • Organised and able to manage time and priorities effectively across competing demands
  • The technical proficiency to work remotely while liaising with the IEEFA analysts and the communications team using online file sharing and video conferencing platforms
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience working in digital publishing suites is advantageous
  • Editorial experience in finance, energy or a related field or working for a non-profit organisation is favourable
  • Web publishing skills is advantageous

Term and Schedule: Full time initial 12-month contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement. Renumeration based on experience.

Travel: Some travel may be required.
