The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading community health service as a Psychologist in the Mental Health Team. This is a part-time, permanent position (3 days a week).

The Psychologist will provide therapeutic counselling to a caseload of clients through NDIS, community health counselling and other Fee for Services streams of funding. The aim is to deliver high quality, evidence-based short-term psychological intervention to clients with a broad range of presenting issues. This includes undertaking mental health assessments, developing goals and treatment plans, providing psychological interventions (individually or within a group context) and working with parents/carers/family members and other professionals to coordinate care. This work will be supported by other clinicians in a multidisciplinary environment. Services may be delivered in person or via Telehealth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake clinical assessment of consumers which includes mental health, AOD, psychosocial, functional, and physical assessment domains
  • Provide evidence-based psychological interventions and support, in line with relevant funding stream guidelines
  • Liaise with referrers and GPs in relation to reviewing and completing a Mental Health Treatment Plan (where appropriate)
  • Deliver comprehensive participants’ NDIS plan reviews in order to provide evidence of the outcomes achieved and the progress made towards participants’ goals
  • Liaise with the NDIS coordinator in order to establish the best possible outcomes for the client.
  • Undertake initial and ongoing risk assessments of clients and develop risk management plans

Skills & Experience

Key attributes of the successful applicant will include, but are not limited to:

  • An empathic, creative and professional therapeutic style
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of mental health assessment, case formulation and treatment
  • Experience and/or training in a range of evidence-based therapeutic interventions (such as CBT, ACT, mindfulness, solution-focussed therapy)
  • Genuine interest in working with clients with a range of mental health and psychosocial concerns, including those with co-occurring conditions
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, make decisions, organise workload, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work creatively and safely with consumers from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTIQ, CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • Current and ongoing registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Psychologist
  • Desirable: Experience in working therapeutically with individuals under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with capacity building and improving daily living skills, and under other Fee for Service funding streams.
