The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading community health service as a Mental Health and AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) Clinician. This is a permanent part-time position.

The Mental Health and AOD Intake Clinician provides clinical triage, assessment and brief interventions for people presenting with mental health and/or substance use concerns. They will work collaboratively with the Intake team alongside the Mental Health and AOD teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake clinical triage and intake for consumers at the ‘first point of contact’ to our services
  • Liaise with our partner agencies to provide intake across the Stepped Care, HeadtoHealth and Medication Support and Recovery Services
  • Use the clinical staging model and Intake Assessment Review (IAR) tools in assessment and development of treatment plans
  • Work collaboratively with consumers, family/carers and other health professionals to support consumers to access the right services at the right time
  • Undertake initial and ongoing risk assessments of clients and develop risk management plans, including safety planning
  • Provide single session therapy to consumers as an alternative to ongoing therapy
  • Provide secondary consultations and service navigation support for referrers, consumers and stakeholders

Skills & Experience

Key attributes of the successful applicant will include, but are not limited to:

  • Tertiary qualifications in mental health, AOD or related areas
  • An empathic, non-judgemental and professional therapeutic style
  • Excellent clinical assessment (including risk assessment and risk management) skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work in a fast-paced environment, including delivery of services over the phone, telehealth and face-to-face
  • Ability to work creatively and safely with consumers from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTIQ, CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
