About IDRS

Intellectual Disability Rights Service (IDRS) operates a community legal centre and disability advocacy service working to ‘make rights real’ for people in NSW living with cognitive and other disabilities. We value and demonstrate justice, respect, and persistence in all our work.

IDRS is looking for an Information and IntakeOfficer for our community legal centre, the Ability Rights Centre. See attached position description.

The Ability Rights Centre provides legal advice and casework, education, and advocacy services for people with cognitive and other disabilities. This position will be responsible for reception, taking enquiries and referrals, completing service intake, undertaking data entry and report preparation, providing information and administrative duties.

The salary for the position is based on Level 3 of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award.

Essential skills and knowledge – selection criteria

You must include a statement explaining how you meet each of these criteria in your application.

  1. Experience in a similar role in the community service or legal sectors. Role includes reception, responding to enquiries and incoming referrals, plus administrative duties
  2. Excellent people skills including ability to communicate simply and clearly with people with cognitive impairment who may have difficulty with understanding
  3. Ability to maintain calm, non-judgemental, and compassionate approach in challenging situations and with people who may be distressed or frustrated.
  4. Demonstrated ability to problem solve and manage competing priorities
  5. Strong skills and experience using Microsoft Suite, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point. Experience with Office 365 an advantage
  6. Ability to use data bases including producing reports
