The Casual Police Station Support person will deliver timely support to adults & young people with suspected cognitive impairment when they are in NSW police custody outside of business hours.
Casual Police Station Support person may be engaged between the hours of 5pm and 9am seven days a week.
Regular work is not guaranteed and is dependant on referrals being made to JAS for support.
Workers may be called anytime during the night and early hours of the morning and need to be willing to answer calls during this time.
The Justice Advocacy Service (JAS) supports adults & young people people with cognitive impairment in contact with the NSW criminal justice system, including as victims, witnesses and suspects/defendants to exercise their rights and fully participate in the process.
JAS uses an individual advocacy approach by arranging a support person to be with victims, witnesses and suspects/defendants when they are in contact with police, courts and legal representatives.
JAS is delivered by the Intellectual Disability Rights Service (IDRS) and is available across NSW.

Casual employees are not considered to be on-call.
The frequency of engagement is dependent on demand. It is not possible to guarantee frequency of engagement.
A Casual Police Station Support person will perform their main duties at the police station in the region they have applied in.
They need to be willing to attend these stations after hours including late evening and early morning if required.
