Hunter Workers is the oldest continuous regional trades labour council in Australia. We represent the interests of all working people in 5 local council areas of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Cessnock, Maitland and Port Stephen. We are affiliated by 26 Unions representing 67,000 Union members from diverse industries and occupations.

The role of Hunter Workers is to advocate and campaign to advance the interests of working people and the communities of our region. At times in conjunction with State and Federal Union campaigning initiatives for economic, industrial and social justice.

We are looking for an energetic and principled individual to join our team based in Newcastle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute communications and media strategy.
  • Develop and distribute content to increase Hunter Workers social media profile and engagement.
  • Managing and updating Hunter Workers website.
  • Work with affiliated Unions to develop and support the Hunter Workers industrial, community, and political campaigning efforts.
  • Support the campaign work of the Hunter Workers team.
  • Preparing media releases.

Selection Criteria:

  • Willing to learn about member-led trade Unionism.
  • Passionate about influencing social justice outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful media and campaign strategies.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work autonomously.
  • Ability to work with a range of people and manage competing interests.
  • Proficiency in video shooting and editing for social media and website.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Drivers licence.

Conditions:

  • Full-time 35 hours per week.
  • $58,217 to $60,013 per annum depending on skills and experience.
  • Opportunities for ongoing training, mentoring and team support.
