Solar Citizens represents the millions of Australian households who are powering their lives with the sun and the vast majority who of Australians who support the transition to renewable energy. We are a charity funded by individual and philanthropic donations and our campaigns and activities are people-powered.

  • You believe in the role of community organisations in creating change and can identify strategic campaign opportunities.
  • You can write inspiring campaign emails that lead supporters to take meaningful action. Your tools? An attention grabbing subject line, a vivid story that connects with people and an urgent ask backed by a credible theory of change.
  • You follow politics and current affairs and you’re always looking for opportunities to mobilise the power of the community to make a difference.
  • You can quickly build relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • You’re familiar with a suite of digital campaigning tools and you love learning how to use new programs, applications and platforms.
  • You’re all over online communications but are happy to work with volunteers and partners to deliver on ground campaign content.
  • You enjoy working in a small, close-knit team and you’re happy to pitch in whenever - preparing banners, mail outs or running out for sunny yellow cardboard - if that’s what it takes to make a difference.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and implementing Solar Citizens’ national campaign moments: liaising with our partners and stakeholders to develop strategy and identify campaign opportunities.
  • Implementation of online campaign tactics including using Dogooder, 123 Contact forms, Nationbuilder and other custom tools as required.
  • Identifying opportunities for rapid response tactics for social, web etc.
  • Daily posting, audience engagement and growth across four social media channels.
  • Administration, content creation and quality control of Solar Citizens and specific campaign websites.
  • Video and graphics production for social media and campaigns, including assisting the Queensland campaigner.

Selection criteria:

  • A passionate commitment to building Australia's renewable energy future.
  • Experience with social change campaigning, particularly online.
  • A high degree of autonomy, initiative and the discipline to work within strategic directives.
  • Demonstrated written and visual communication skills, including developing compelling email, web and social media content.
  • Demonstrated interest in Australian politics and news/current affairs.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with CMS and CRM systems.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, effectiveness under pressure and capacity and willingness to work in a small interdependent team.

Desirable qualities:

  • Knowledge of climate change and energy issues in Australia
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing planned and rapid-response online campaign tactics across web, email and social media.
  • Experience in working with external suppliers, contractors and stakeholders/peak bodies.
  • Experience in developing messaging for campaigns.
  • Demonstrated skills in producing photography, graphics and video content.
  • Familiarity with Nationbuilder online system.
  • Experience with Google Adwords and facebook ad manager.
  • Experience with Google Analytics
  • Previous experience working with volunteers.

Salary and conditions:

This is a full time position. Salary is $66000 - $71 000 per year depending on experience.

Solar Citizens is a flexible workplace with four weeks’ leave plus one week end-of-year closure.
