This newly created role is responsible for implementing and embedding Hume City Councils Child Safe Policy across the organisation. It is a strategic position in the organisation with the responsibility to ensure the Council meets and maintains its obligations as a community leader and commitment to be a Child Safe organisation.

The Child Safe Officer will play a sophisticated role in ensuring the whole organisation is linked into necessary supports, training, and awareness of its obligations under the legislated Victorian Child Safe Standards and how this translates into operational practices.

Being a new role, the incumbent will require the ability to be an innovative and dynamic team player. The Child Safe officer position is for a fixed term of 12 months and is subject to ongoing funding.

As the Child Safe Officer your role will:

  • Work closely with the Child Safe Working Group, Executive and Senior Management teams, and Council staff to develop and promote Child Safety strategies and practices. The role will sit in the Family, Youth, and Children's Services Department but will have the responsibility to work with and across Councils Divisions
  • Key deliverables will include the development of a Child Safe action plan which aims to identify a range of strategies to support Council in the implementation of the child safe standards and national principals. This will also include recommendations and obligations under the Commission for Children and Young people's Reportable Conduct Scheme
  • The Position provides professional services in accordance with legislation, practice guidelines, policies, and procedures and applies professional judgment to ensure that initiatives are delivered in the best interest of children, young people, and their families
  • The Child Safety Officer will have sound self-management skills, self-awareness, and emotional maturity, with the ability to understand the personal impacts of child protection work and strategies for building the capacity of others
