Born out of the role and value of sport and the influence the North Melbourne Kangaroos plays in connecting people across different ages, genders and cultures; The Huddle was established in 2010 as the community arm of the Club in partnership with the Scanlon Foundation and the Australian Multicultural Foundation.

It was established to engage, support and empower young people to build on their strengths, increase their ability to participate in society and contribute to more socially inclusive communities. The Huddle works with some of the most iconic sporting clubs in the world to help young people learn, grow and belong. Through the design of its innovative programs, The Huddle leverages the power of sport to strengthen social inclusion, education and careers for young people.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The key objective of the Manager, Social Cohesion position is to lead the design, roll-out, and evaluation of large-scale community support and inclusion programs designed to strengthen health and wellbeing, resilience and prevent risk factors for vulnerable and at-risk young people to address poor mental health, substance abuse, crime, and violence.

Reporting to the CEO, The Huddle, this role is responsible for:

  • Contribute to leadership development, staff management, and positive culture at The Huddle. In addition, contribute to strategy discussions and decisions, as well as the development of annual work plans
  • Drive high-performing teams, ensuring all staff have a performance and development plan that is regularly monitored and reviewed as part of The Huddle's performance process
  • Increase the community use of Active Melbourne Recreation Facilities, in particular, the North Melbourne Community Centre and The Hub@Docklands by developing a range of accessible initiatives for at-risk and vulnerable members of the community
  • Manage the design, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of Social Cohesion programs, ensuring the alignment with The Huddle's Strategic direction, Theory of Change, and annual work plans
  • Maintain annual program budgets, including accountability for program expenses and resource allocation
  • Oversee participant data collection and evaluation, regularly monitoring, analysing, and reporting against targets
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including the YMCA to design, roll out and monitor social impact studies and reports
  • Lead staff to expand the reach of The Huddle's Social Cohesion programs and services
  • Build and maintain partnerships and networks at a regional and local neighbourhood level with community organisations, cultural and religious leaders, and families
  • Manage relationships with funding partners and support the construction of reports and communications

We are looking for a strong people leader and strategic thinker who is team-orientated and will role model expected behaviours and standards.

The successful candidate will have the following skills, experience, and qualifications:

  • Qualifications and leadership experience in community development
  • Experience managing people
  • Experience designing, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating engaging and innovative programs to strengthen diverse young people’s health and wellbeing
  • An understanding of building community capacity to strengthen participation for health, social and economic outcomes
  • An understanding of barriers and enablers that influence community participation
  • Is agile, adaptive, responsive, and proactive
  • Builds and supports team capability and performance
  • Drive to make things happen (translating strategy into action)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate is required to undergo and pass a police check, and hold a current and valid Victorian Working with Children’s Check.
