About the role:

Due to our expansive growth, a new full-time position as Corporate Governance Officer – Policy, Audit & Risk has been created to assist the Chief Financial Officer in ensuring that the organisation is compliant with its compliance, risk and insurance obligations. The role will support the CFO through the implementation and ongoing improvement of a strong compliance, risk, audit and policy framework, instilling a governance and compliance-based culture.

The Position:

  • Compliance with regulators reporting requirements including Registered Organisations Commission, Industrial Relations Commission NSW, Australian Electoral Commission and NSW Electoral Commission
  • Ensure the policy and procedure framework is fit for purpose and best practice in the union movement
  • Preparation and maintenance of existing and new policies and procedures
  • Implementation of a Risk Management framework, including periodical review and assessment
  • Support the union’s Risk Management policy and framework, including reporting on risk management activities
  • Management of the business insurance portfolio including renewals and management of business claims
  • Manage and conduct internal audits as per the audit schedule
  • Analysis of breach data, including root cause analysis and recommendations for preventive action
  • HSU Privacy Officer including responding to privacy queries

The Candidate:

  • Experience in compliance and risk ideally within the not-for-profit, member-based organisations, peak body or charity.
  • Professional qualifications in a related field – legal, risk, compliance, accounting, human resources or similar
  • Demonstrated experience working with compliance and risk frameworks
  • Ability to understand and interpret regulations and adopt changes as necessary
  • Excellent communication and the demonstrated ability to apply initiative and to problem solve
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and perform multiple tasks concurrently
  • Self-motivated with a positive work ethic and a commitment to excellence
  • Experience managing relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy, under minimal supervision

Standard office hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm. This position is based at the HSU office in CBD Sydney.
