By offering them the opportunity to complete a Certificate I in Automotive Skills, we provide them the platform for further education, pre-employment pathways or to return to school, whilst providing them the wraparound support to also develop their life skills.

If you have relevant workshop or automotive qualifications and/or experience, and your Cert IV in training and assessing (or willing to obtain) then we want to hear from you. Alternatively, if you are a Youth Worker (or similar field) with automotive experience, and are willing to be upskilled to a Cert IV in Training and Assessing, we also encourage you to apply!

PCYC exists so that disadvantaged children and young people at risk across Western Australia have a safe place to go – somewhere they can feel at home, make friends and do things that children should do.We currently operate in 16 locations across WA, with 42 Blue Light Units in remote and rural areas where there is no PCYC Centre. Our organisation is unique through its partnership with the WA Police, and mission simple – to help all children and young people achieve their potential.

Your next role:

Under the direction of the Centre Manager, the Trainer will facilitate training courses to clients under PCYC’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) status. The position will report to the Centre Manager to ensure that course and training needs are achieved. This position will work with youth, including those identified as ‘at risk,’ to meet training objectives and outcomes set by PCYC and the funding bodies. The Trainer will have responsibility to plan training sessions, deliver courses, monitor participants’ progression, manage participant attendance and assess participant competency. This position will be responsible for ensuring that training delivery meets legislative, PCYC compliance, RTO standards 2015 and that PCYC programs are marketed to external agencies to gain sufficient referrals to training courses.
In liaison with the Centre Manager and with the support and inclusion of the Assistant Trainer you will:

  • Arrange the transportation of the young people to the centre and home again, which may include the driving of vehicles (subject to appropriate licences)
  • As required, assist the centre with other enquires and administration tasks and responsibilities
  • Behaviour management of the young people engaged within the course
  • Effectively supervise staff, contractors, and volunteers in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development of the Institute of Training Strategy ensuring initiatives plans and processes meet organisational requirements
  • Provide support in reviewing policies and procedures to support the Institute of Training department
  • Designing and expanding training and development courses based on both the organisation's and the individual's needs in liaison with the Centre Manager
  • Plan, deliver and assess training courses and activities in line with Institute of Training Strategy and funding directives
  • Assist the Institute of Training Manager and Training and Compliance Officer by ensuring that Institute of Training department maintain human, financial, and physical resources aligned to PCYC and external requirements
  • Working in a team to produce and deliver courses that are satisfactory to all relevant parties within the organisation and centre
  • Working collaboratively with the IOT assistant to ensure high communication standards and delivery of program
  • Demonstrates and manages ethical behaviour in accordance with relevant standards, values, and policies.

About you:

  • Mechanical workshop experiences working on light or heavy vehicles.
  • Mechanical Trade Certificates either Auto Cert IV or Certificate III in Light vehicle mechanical Technology.
  • Other related mechanical certificates or qualifications
  • Current technical knowledge and competencies in the industrial, vocational, or professional field relevant to position
  • Relevant VET and Lecturing experience
  • Professional Currency Documentation outlining VET currency, Vocational Currency, Industry Currency and Training and Assessment Qualification Currency
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment including LLN Unit of Competency (or higher recognised qualification) (or willing to obtain)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop rapport and relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated proactive communication and relationship building skills with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in working with ‘youth at risk’
  • Ability to assess individual’s education levels and identify gaps in learning, and facilitate and encourage learning using several modes of delivery
  • Ability to obtain a WWC card
  • Ability to obtain a current National Police Clearance
  • Holds a LR, MR or HR License (desirable)
