ABOUT THE ROLE

The Business Development Manager is a newly created role in a dynamic and growing team. The role has been created to provide strategic advice and project management for a range of emerging business development opportunities for the Marlinyu Ghoorlie people.

Marlinyu Ghoorlie has several existing opportunities ready to go that require additional effort to take them through to realisation. The Business Development Manager will work with the Chief Executive Officer to manage and progress these opportunities under the guidance of the Marlinyu Ghoorlie Applicant together with the Directors from Marlinyu Ghoorlie Aboriginal Corporation.

A key part of the role will be to develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including Northern Star Resources, Minerals Resources Limited, Nortons Gold, Tellus, BHP, Evolution Mining and other resource companies operating on Marlinyu Ghoorlie country, industry associations, operators and Indigenous partners and leverage opportunities with these stakeholders.

A further element of this role is working with individual members and families to determine their business support needs and support them to connect them to appropriate business advisory services available through government or industry funded programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development of business opportunities for Marlinyu Ghoorlie Aboriginal Corporation (MGAC) and Marlinyu Ghoorlie people.
  • Support the development and implementation of Joint Venture arrangements.
  • Provide technical advice on a range of business development activities including:
    • Undertake feasibility studies to achieve strategic investments including exploring opportunities to leverage country and culture initiatives and maximise the shift in industry to carbon and new energy sources;
    • Manage relationships with stakeholders including negotiating contracts, managing fee structures, evaluation of partner tenders and ROI on co-operative alliances opportunities;
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with business development and support services provided by governments and NGOs so that Marlinyu Ghoorlie people can assess and utilise these services effectively;
    • Work closely with the CEO to ensure that business development opportunities are maximised with key stakeholders and potential partners; and
    • Ensure strong internal communication and work with the Marlinyu Ghoorlie team to assist them in understanding the value and importance of the marketplace and building co-operative relations with key stakeholder.
  • Work with individuals and family groups to support the development and implementation of business cases that leverage skills and expertise, together with opportunities on Marlinyu Ghoorlie country. Support will include advice, mentoring and financing.

ABOUT MARLINYU GHOORLIE

Marlinyu Ghoorlie registered a native title claim in 2017 on behalf of the Kalamaia Kapurn People over an area that covers Kalgoorlie and extends east to the boundary of the South West Noongar native title area. The Marlinyu Ghoorlie native title claim is progressing and Marlinyu Ghoorlie remain optimistic of reaching a consent determination with the State.

The strength of the MG claim is evidenced by their success in negotiating native title agreements in the MG native title claim area. Agreements that have been concluded include with Northern Star Resources (including over the Superpit), Nortons Gold, Evolution Mining, Tellus and a number of smaller companies. In addition, Marlinyu Ghoorlie are progressing native title agreement negotiations with Mineral Resources and BHP which will shortly be finalised, and are currently in negotiations with gold, nickel, lithium and renewable energy companies.

Marlinyu Ghoorlie receive funds from their native title agreements which are utilised to support the operations of the MG native title claim and the establishment and operations of Marlinyu Ghoorlie Aboriginal Corporation.

The native title agreements contain commitments from proponents to provide employment and training, business development and procurement opportunities to Marlinyu Ghoorlie and Marlinyu Ghoorlie People. Marlinyu Ghoorlie are keen to maximise those opportunities with proponents.
