Helen Macpherson Smith Trust is an independent philanthropic trust established by Helen Macpherson Schutt (née Smith) in 1951. On her passing in 1951, Helen left £275,000, the majority of her wealth, to establish a perpetual philanthropic trust to benefit Victorian charitable institutions.

Since HMSTrust was established, $113 million has been approved in grants to a wide range of Victorian charitable institutions and a diverse range of projects benefiting Victorians every year.

We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Grants Advisor to join our team. Reporting directly to the CEO you will contribute to the management and coordination of the Trust’s grant-making process, from enquiry through final acquittal.

The primary duties will include, but may not be limited to:

Grant Management:

  • Grant Preparation – respond to and manage potential applicant enquiries, process grant applications using internal system
  • Grant Evaluation – review grant applications, undertake site visits, provide initial assessment advice on applications, report on grant submissions and prepare documentation for trustee meetings
  • Grant Execution – ensure efficient and timely execution of grants and finance upon approval, prepare and manage all applicant correspondence, monitor successful applicants, prepare required reports, process and manage all documentation

Communications:

  • Prepare website content website and other communications, prepare best practice case studies, represent HMSTrust at events as required

Strategic Development:

  • Explore and foster opportunities for strategic grant-making in areas relevant to the Trust’s grant programs; and engage with the philanthropic sector and not-for-profit organisations to identify opportunities for collaborative support and strategic engagement

Relationships:

  • Collaboratively work with the Grants team to optimise knowledge, resources and outputs, achieve and sustain best industry practice by attending relevant workshop and developing personal networks

The position requires you to be tertiary qualified with experience in the not-for profit sector, with exceptional evaluation, analytical and interpersonal skills.
