Staff Software Quality Assurance Engineer

Hireup

Founded in early 2015 and based in Sydney, Hireup is a trusted online platform and community for people with disability and their families to find, hire and manage support workers that fit their needs and share their interests. Whether it’s support with getting to work, catching a local footy game or taking the scenic route, Hireup gives people the tools needed to live the most flexible, seamless and supported life possible. With over 100,000 registered users in communities all across Australia, Hireup is a national network of local supports. As a purpose-led organisation, we promote a culture defined by its humanity, curiosity and creativity, and allow this to infuse our services, product and people.

At Hireup, we understand the important role technology, and specifically, digital product plays in connecting people. For the tech team at Hireup, it’s not only about creating the most elegant, intuitive, accessible and powerful peer-to-peer platform in Australia, but to ensure we are building an efficient and lean model that maximises choice and control for both Australians living with a disability and their support workers.

As a Staff Software Quality Assurance Engineer, your primary focus will be to ensure the Product team is delivering high quality accessible features and services to our community. You’ll collaborate with the team to devise the most effective testing strategy and architect our automation suite to provide coverage of our various web applications and APIs allowing the team to deliver at pace with confidence.

The big picture

  • Join one of Australia's fastest growing tech companies - winner of the 2018 Google.org Impact Challenge and 2017 Deloitte Tech Fast 50
  • Make meaningful social impact through your work whilst being a part of a driven, specialist product team with the potential to become leaders in the disability tech space
  • Demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in a highly inclusive and collaborative team

The role

  • Design and help implement testing strategies for our legacy (Angular), new web (Vue.js), mobile applications (iOS/Android) and backend APIs (Node).
  • Design and build maintainable, fast, automation suites that verify the behaviour of our platform and give us the confidence to release to production regularly.
  • Work with product teams to embed a culture of quality and provide teams the tools and knowledge to help them self-service. There is certainly early work to be done in building out test infrastructure and leading by example with some good testing patterns, however, the long-term goal is for teams to build and maintain their own tests.
  • Be a key stakeholder in the release process to increase confidence in what we ship to production.
  • Raise the bar on every aspect of quality throughout the broader product team.

The person:

You...

  • Live for fast-feedback, love automating things and are passionate about working with teams to enable them to embed quality into everything they do
  • Care about code coverage beyond a code coverage metric
  • Automate by default whilst valuing exploratory testing
  • Are pragmatic and prioritise investment in quality according to business value
  • Think and operate in terms of end user value, acknowledging that testing just one part of the system does not guarantee a great customer experience
  • Don’t take anything for granted and enjoy breaking things :)
  • Are collaborative and like working with fast-paced agile product teams
  • Have a strong connection to, or interest, in building an understanding of the Australian disability sector and community

You have hands on experience with (most but not necessarily all)…

  • Creating build pipelines and dashboards
  • Regression testing both web and mobile
  • API integration testing
  • Accessibility testing and accessibility standards (we are looking to raise the industry bar on this one!)
  • BDD
  • SQL and document-based databases
  • AWS
  • Node

The benefits

  • The chance to be part of a meaningful challenge and witness the positive social impact of your work
  • Exciting and challenging projects that will push your technical skills and provide ample opportunity for personal and professional growth
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • An open culture that thrives on new initiatives and ideas
  • Your choice of laptop and tools to get the job done
