Policy Manager

Hireup

Hireup is a tech enabled purpose led business for people with disability and their families to find, hire and manage support workers that fit their needs and share their interests. Whether it’s support with getting to work or catching a local footy game, Hireup gives people the tools to live life on their own terms.

Hireup is a national network connecting thousands of registered users with support workers in communities throughout Australia. We are committed to delivering an individualised approach to support and a community-driven future for the disability sector.

As a purpose-led organisation with over 230 HQ staff (and growing), we are dedicated to improving the disability sector. We do this by keeping the community at the heart of our decision making and maintaining a work culture defined by kindness, innovation, equality and storytelling.

The Corporate Affairs team works closely with members of parliament, department officials, stakeholders, regulators and government to educate them about Hireup, highlight our significant social and economic impact and by showcasing our incredible work. Corporate Affairs services our business by helping policy makers, investors, media and analysts understand the issues and opportunities that affect our thriving community. As advocates for positive change in the disability sector we are always looking to expand our social impact to achieve a society that is truly accessible for all.

As Policy Manager, you will play a key role within Hireup’s public policy functions, covering key engagements of the Disability Royal Commission and the future of the disability workforce, driving policy development and a range of external engagements.

You will develop and drive our engagement with the Disability Royal Commission, as well as other government inquiries and consultations about public policy matters relevant to Hireup and our community. You will also analyse and advise on industrial relations issues driving the rapidly changing nature of work at the intersection of the disability sector and the digital economy, as well as strategise and deliver advocacy opportunities and campaigns to position Hireup to stakeholders in this space. You will need to understand how policy is made and changed, and be across a broad range of additional policy issues relevant to the disability sector. You will be responsible for consistent, compelling policy engagement, written and in-person, from Hireup to governments and other stakeholders.

Reporting to the National Lead - Public Affairs, you will thrive on diving into complex issues and be passionate about policy and advocacy in the disability sector. You will need to get across the big picture quickly, but you will also need to be comfortable getting into the details of policy and assessing impacts of a range of external changes and challenges. Key experience will be one or more of: comprehensive knowledge of the disability sector landscape; involvement in complex and innovative approaches to industrial relations; engagement and advocacy through submissions to Royal Commissions and inquiries.

You will be working closely with the Corporate Affairs team, our National Leads on Public Affairs and Government Affairs, and the CEO, as well as our People and Culture team in relation to workforce matters. We have big dreams for the disability sector in Australia, and we see this as a key role in achieving that.

Travel interstate will be expected as part of this role. You can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra.
