Established in 1993, North and West Remote Health (NWRH) delivers community and outreach based allied health, aged care, wellbeing and disability services. We have a large and diverse team of healthcare professionals to service the needs of communities in regional, rural and remote Australia. With offices throughout North and West Queensland including Townsville, Mount Isa, Longreach, Mornington Island, Doomadgee and Normanton, NWRH offer a range of specific mental health programs.

About the Opportunity

NWRH now has a fantastic opportunity available for an adaptable Psychologist/Mental Health Social Worker/Occupational Therapist/Registered Nurse to join our team as a Mental Health Professional.

This is a full-time role based at our Mount Isa office. Candidates interested in a short-term placement are also encouraged to apply!

As a Mental Health Professional your primary responsibility will be to deliver high-quality mental health specific assessment, prevention, treatment and intervention to achieve maximal outcomes for clients. This will include the ability to plan and deliver clinical services and educational activities within the community, in accordance with organisational and program funding guidelines.

These are true generalist roles that will give you the unique opportunity to expand your skillset whilst working with a broad range of clients including both children and adults, older adults, people with drug and alcohol issues and those affected by natural disasters.

Who are we looking for?

NWRH is seeking a dedicated, culturally sensitive and adaptable mental health professional with the ability to work independently and autonomously.
Suitable candidate professions would include:

  • An AHPRA Registered Psychologist,
  • An AASW Accredited Mental Health Social Worker,
  • An Experienced Mental Health Occupational Therapist; or
  • A Registered Nurse with mental health specialisation & experience.

Candidates from all experience levels, including recent graduates and senior clinicians are encouraged to apply.

You will need to have high-level interpersonal, cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills in order to establish respectful and trusting relationships with individuals, teams, NWRH staff and the community at large. While not mandatory, candidates with additional experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds will be highly regarded.

Please note: Fortnightly travel to communities within the catchment area will be required, as such you must be comfortable with travelling by light aircraft or road and possess a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence.

The successful candidate will receive a highly attractive remuneration package up to $115,000 (pro rata if applying for part-time and commensurate with experience), and inclusive of:

  • Salary sacrificing options up to $15,900;
  • 5 weeks annual leave;
  • Annual leave loading of 17.5%; and
