About the location

Sarina is a town of approximately 10,000, situated 35 kilometres south of Mackay, 299 km north of Rockhampton, on North Queensland coast - essentially a tropical paradise. Six picturesque sandy beaches are in close proximity to town. Mountain ranges offer an exciting contrast, boasting spectacular views of the surrounding area. Whitsunday Islands are further north but easily accessible for leisure and recreation. The town has a public high school and state and private primary schools and preschools. Many children commute daily to private high schools in Mackay - these maintain excellent academic record. Two large coal export harbours in shire area with railway connection to the mines in the hinterland.

The facilities of Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay make Sarina a focal point for coal exportation, while sugar cane farming, sugar milling, (sugar mill in town), alcohol distilling, dairying, cattle grazing, tropical fruit growing, horticulture, aquaculture, fishing and tourism provide further development in the region.

Sarina has a 16 bed public hospital, a residential aged care facility comprising a 48 bed community nursing hostel and 10 independent living units. Most specialities are represented in Mackay either fulltime or on a visiting basis. There is a base hospital in Mackay as well as a private hospital. Three Pathology collection centres town (one in adjoining building), offering courier for pathology collection twice daily weekdays with one collection on Saturday mornings. An independently owned Medical Imaging facility is also located in Sarina. NQPHN provides excellent ongoing CME program in Mackay. Mackay airport < 35 km away with 11 flights into Mackay from Brisbane and 11 from Mackay to Brisbane daily and 1-2 to and from Townsville every day.

Doctors working at clinic either live near the beaches or some have lived in Mackay and commuted as connected by national route 1. Alternatively some spouses/partners could commute to Mackay where their employment potential is greater, thus facilitating doctors involvement in after hours care if wish to be so involved.

Position Description

Provide GP Services. GP position in a four doctor practice. Work hours are 08:00 to 17:00 and possibly some Saturdays 8.00 to 12.00, some weekends on call. Practice doctors have admitting rights at local public hospital. Practice provides full range of GP work including large workload of skin conditions.

This practice believes in caring comprehensively and holistically for its patients. We attempt to provide as many services in house as feasible and practicable which increases the rewards. Sarina Clinic was opened in October, 1976; opens from 0800 till 1700 weekdays, 0800 till 1200 Saturdays - it is an accredited practice with two nurses always in attendance during the week and one on Saturday mornings. There are rooms for 6 doctors, casualty with emergency entrance, conference room, sound proof audio room, TV room for kids, a minor operating theatre and allied health rooms. Facilities include ECG, spirometer, sigmoidoscope, audiometer, doppler, dermatoscope and INR testing. Remunerated weekly in arrears on percentage of gross turnover plus 85% of after hour's consults.
