Tell me about the role

headspace offers a range of digital support options, so that all young people (and supporting adults) seeking mental health support via the headspace website will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of high quality support options including, peer-to-peer support and appropriate clinical intervention, regardless of where their help seeking journey starts.

  • Apply evidence-based treatments and best practice clinical services to young people and adults who support young people accessing support via headspace Online Communities.
  • Formulate treatment plans for Online Communities clients and, utilising existing clinical governance structures, follow-up on high risk presentations or safety concerns for those clients.
  • Provide clinical consultation and direction to Online Peer Support Moderators as required.
  • Work within the headspace Online Communities clinical governance and escalation procedures

Who we're looking for (key selection criteria)

  • Approved tertiary qualification in an allied health discipline, including social work, psychology (clinical, counselling, 4+2 or 5+1 pathway), mental health nursing, and occupational therapy; or a Masters in Counselling (minimum Level 3, ACA).
  • Eligibility for membership of an appropriate professional body: Social workers are required to be eligible for full membership with AASW. Psychologists, mental health nurses, and occupational therapists are required to have full registration with AHPRA. Those with a Masters in Counselling need to have eligibility for full professional registration at a minimum of Level 3 within the Australian Counselling Association scope of practice guidelines.
  • Robust knowledge of the common mental health issues faced by young people, therapeutic interventions for high prevalence disorders (such as CBT for mood and anxiety disorders) and the literature underpinning such approaches
  • Highly developed and demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) as well as demonstrated abilities in problem solving and negotiation
  • Experience providing support to diverse user groups, and demonstrated understanding of the specific needs of LGBTQIA+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds
