Tell me about the role…

The Trainee Co-ordinator, part of the headspace Cultural Practice & Engagement team, is responsible for co-ordinating the strategic and operational functions of the headspace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Traineeship Program.

In this role you will report to the National Manager of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Practice & Engagement and will develop, implement and evaluate the Traineeship Program and provide individualised support to trainees and headspace centres who are actively involved in the Program.

You will be passionate about supporting program expansion and rollout across the headspace network, and ensuring the long term sustainability of the program.

A typical week in this role could include:

  • Providing mentoring and guidance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Trainees across the network, escalating or seeking additional support where necessary;
  • Supporting other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce engagement initiatives;
  • Advocating for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and communities within the headspace context, pushing through program barriers;
  • Developing and evaluating youth and employment programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people;
  • Collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders to identify and source long term program sustainability and funding opportunities;
  • Developing proposals and reports for funding bodies, corporate partners and other key stakeholders;
  • Travelling interstate to facilitate and attend meetings, as well as building strategic partnerships.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience working in community/youth work, mental health, workforce development or employment (or a related area);
  • Sound understanding of the mental health and wellbeing needs of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and evaluating youth or employment programs;
  • Consultative communication skills and the ability to provide a professional, safe and appropriate presence for Trainees;
  • A continuous improvement approach, confident in making recommendations to improve the Trainee experience;
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills, enabling you to thrive in highly productive environments and juggle multiple tasks at once;
  • Flexible and adaptable, undertaking interstate travel and working remotely from time to time;
  • Strong alignment with the values of the organisation under The headspace Way.
  • A tertiary qualification in youth work, mental health or employment would be well regarded but is not essential.
