About the role

This pivotal position will:

  • Lead the development and provision of clinical guidance across headspace National related to alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and young people
  • Work with a high level of autonomy in the design and development of resources and initiatives aimed at strengthening integrated AOD and clinical service delivery
  • Provide guidance to clinical leaders to support young people presenting with AOD use and mental health difficulties
  • Provide direct guidance, clinical consultation and support to the headspace professional network
  • Ensure all headspace services are delivering evidence-informed practices and programs
  • Undertake a clinical advisory role, providing up-to-date clinical information to key internal stakeholders
  • Continuous improvement focus to further build the reputation of headspace as a leader in youth mental health and AOD services
  • Provide expert advice and support in the development of curriculum content, resources and training

Who we're looking for

  • Approved tertiary qualifications in an allied health discipline relevant to clinical mental health
  • Strong experience in the application of clinical practice in the mental health and AOD fields, with significant exposure to work in early intervention for young people experiencing mental ill health and their families. This should include a level of clinical skill in assessment, case formulation and intervention
  • Eligibility for membership of an appropriate professional body:
    • Psychologists, mental health nurses, and occupational therapists are required to be fully registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
    • Social workers are required to be eligible for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Expert knowledge of the rationale, evidence and treatments for early intervention in youth mental health and AOD, including experiencing in developing and implementing integrated youth mental health and AOD programs and services
  • Demonstrated project management, training and facilitation skills and experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of the mental health service system in Australia and the delivery of mental health services in a primary care setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of current health/mental health policy issues in Australia including its impact on service system reform and the establishment of integrated and coordinated service delivery
  • Demonstrated critical appraisal skills that can be applied to rigorous interpretation of clinical studies
  • Proven ability to provide senior technical and professional advice/consultation of a complex clinical nature
  • Proven stakeholder relationship management and the ability to build relationships and strategic partnerships with headspace stakeholders including key government, non-government and community partners
