What is headspace

Established in 2006, headspace is a well-recognised, national not-for-profit organisation making a difference to the lives of young people aged 12-25 years. To learn more about headspace and the services we offer, visit headspace.org.au.

Tell me about the role

headspace Work and Study is an international first, providing vocational assistance to young people facing barriers to work and study. Support is tailored to a young person's needs using strengths-based approaches to help them reach their work and study goals. All support happens online, meaning young people right across Australia can access the service. Based on the Individual Placement and Support model of employment support for people living with mental ill health, the service supports 15-25 year olds who are looking to find, engage or maintain work and/or study.

Work and Study Specialists (Career Advisors) work directly with a caseload of young people providing appointments via web chat, phone, email and video chat, delivering personalised work and study sessions based around a young person's goals and where they are on their work/study journey.

The role works within a small and collaborative team alongside mental health clinicians who work closely with Specialists to provide integrated clinical care. Specialists deliver vocational interventions aimed at minimising the impact of mental health challenges on a young person's engagement with work and study, building resilience and enabling recovery. Young people can also access direct clinical support through the service with a clinician.

In addition to service delivery with young people, stakeholder engagement is a core part of this role. Specialists collaborate with educational institutions, employment agencies and employers to assist young people with identifying opportunities. They also work closely with referral partners, including headspace centres, to promote and drive service referrals and to undertake care collaboration to ensure service participants receive the best support possible.

This is a career opportunity not to be missed for professionals who want to work in an environment that promotes a positive, personalised and strengths-based approach to career development, job seeking and educational attainment.

Who are we looking for?

If you have experience providing work, study and career support to young people, have a comprehensive understanding of the employment landscape, coupled with an ability to actively engage young people with complex needs, then this is an opportunity you won't want to miss.

Naturally, you will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, along with a proven ability to develop solutions to complex problems and sustain collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders within the employment and education service system.
